KATSINA INSECURITY: BATSARI LGA LOSES CONFIDENCE IN POLICE, RESORTS TO SELF HELP

Batsari Local Government Area, one of the 8 frontline Local Government Areas of Katsina state, bordering Zamfara, that has been troubled by persistent cases of kidnapping and banditry, yesterday declared that it no longer has faith in the ability of the Police and other security agencies to contain the onslaught and therefore announced plans to mobilize it’s people and other self help efforts towards ensuring security in the area.

Alhaji Mannir Muazu Rumah, the Council Transition Committee Chairman, who identified the earlier held peaceful protest as demonstration of lack of confidence in the Police, made the disclosure to newsmen while reacting to the worsening security situation in the area

He further noted that the security situation in the area is beyond the capability of the security agencies, including the Police, adding that the council is planning to mobilize the people to join hands with it to ensure that everyone in the area sleeps with his or her eyes two eyes closed.

He ‘’the security structures mounted by the various agencies and the Police in the area is not working, as attacks has persisted unabated’’.

‘’You can imagine that the IGP’s Operation Puff Arder, is strategically located at this local government headquarters, yet it does nothing to reduce the crime. The men are neither flexible nor mobile, and hardly arrive promptly to the scene of crime or attend distress calls’’

He also expresses fear of a looming food scarcity in the state if the situation is left unchecked as farmers in the area may not cultivate their farmlands this year thanks to growing insecurity

The council boss also called on the people of the area to intensify prayers for God to intervene in addressing the menace.

The Nation recalled that growing insecurity in the state occasioned by banditry and kidnapping attacks in the state, had prompted several prominent citizens of the state, Including the Emir of katsina, Abdulmuminu Kabir Umah to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently intervene to the state from kidnappers
