Akeredolu vows to restore electricity to Ondo South.
From Aboto where solar power was inaugurated to Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area and Okitipupa – Okitipupa Local Government Area and Igbobini in Ese Odo, the message was the same. Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN on Tuesday vowed to give his all to ensure electricity is restored to the Southern District of the State.
Governor Akeredolu made the promise while addressing stakeholders at different town hall meetings with the people of Ese Odo, Ilaje, Irele and Okitipupa Local Government Areas on the restoration of electricity to Ondo South which has been in perpetual darkness for more than a decade.
Governor Akeredolu expressed deep concern over the long disconnection of an entire senatorial district from the National Grid.
“How can I be happy when a whole senatorial district of my State is in darkness?
” The South is our industrial base and we have been moving from one place to another wooing investors. We’re determined to explore our bitumen and resuscitate all our moribund industries and therefore we must have electricity. ”
He added that the issue had been in his priority when he was inaugurated in 2017.
He said: “Any government that fails to keep its electoral promises is not a serious government but the issue of electricity most times cannot be a sole effort.
“I cannot but thank the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who is seriously playing a pivotal role in this restoration process.
“I appeal to you all to be patient and we promise to work in tandem with the Federal Government to restore your electricity. ”
Earlier, the Deputy Governor Alfred Agboola Ajayi highlighted the numerous projects the Government has completed in the area, which he said was in demonstration of the Governor’s commitment to develop all parts of the State evenly.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Utilities, Engr Tunji Light Ariyomo explained the State Government’s intervention in creating alternative power sources.
“The State Government has successfully light up Aboto and Igbobini. Just on Monday, all documents required for the commencement of Mini Grids and IPPs in selected communities have been perfected.
“Our Solar Stand -alone for households – SHoPU has reached advanced stages in various communities”, he said.
Meanwhile, the Bring Back Our Light group representing youths in Okitipupa, Irele, Ilaje and Ese-Odo councils, thanked Akeredolu for his humilty in visiting the people.
