Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke is dead.
Adeleke died Sunday at an Hospital in Oshogbo, the Osun state capital, after suffering a heart attack, Pleroma News reliably learnt from family sources.
Adeleke, the first civilian governor of Osun state under the defunct Social Democratic Party in 1991, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,in 2014 for APC.
At an event in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, while leading thousands of his supporters to defect to APC, Adeleke noted that with the alleged assault on him by the then Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, and candidate of the PDP, Iyiola Omisore, he and his followers were no longer safe in the party.
The three-term Senator currently represents Osun West Senatorial district having won the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2015.
Mr. Adeleke, aged 62, died Sunday morning at a hospital in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, hours after he engaged in a political meeting which terminated late Saturday.
His colleague in the Senate, Shehu Sani, already expressed his condolence :
“Senator Isiaka Adeleke; a calm, principled and responsible gentleman. He represented his people with maturity, dignity and distinction. Adieu,” Mr. Sani said.
He sponsored a bill to protect whistleblowers and security informants nad until his death he was the chairman of Senate committee on Capital Market.
His remains today, will be buried at about 4pm in Ede, his hometown.
